Primarily recognised as being the first woman in history to circumnavigate the globe the "wrong way round", Dee Caffari needed a website which featured not only her great sailing achievements but also her many other global adventures on both land and sea.
During a brief respite from mountainbiking in Tasmania, aerobicising in Regent's Park, and pillion-riding in an RAF Tornado, the fiendishly busy Dee Caffari met with Marriott Design to explain her need for a new and more effective web presence.
Primarily the new site needed to reflect Dee's energetic personality and to appeal to people of all ages and interests, but also had to contain the functionality necessary to ensure that the increasing numbers of 'Dee-votees' were kept up-to-date with her adventures around the world.
Marriott Design worked closely with Dee to produce a site structure which responded exactly to her requirements and made suggestions of how these could be most successfully met. Thus the website features a day-to-day diary, a calendar of events, a photographic gallery of all Dee's exploits, as well as video clips, press area and RSS news feeds, all within a vibrant design which reflected Dee's energetic personality. But which colour would best express Dee? A whole palette of colours was exhausted until Dee exclaimed - "remember, I am a woman!".
Thus the pink site was proudly launched at the London Boat Show, its distinctive colour setting deecaffari.com firmly apart from other sites in this otherwise male-dominated sport.
The same event also saw the launch of Dee's entry into the 2008 Vendee Globe, ensuring that deecaffari.com, at least until the Spring of 2009, will hold no shortage of excitement or adventure for her many followers around the world...
